Sadly, a great opportunity squandered!

I never have nor ever expected to write such a review! What a tragedy for Whirlpool! As my title indicates, this potentially wonderful, industry leading refrigerator has squandered a great opportunity, suffering the built-in consequences of poor design and poor service. What clearly is a grabber at the sales end of the life cycle, becomes a nightmare for not only this Whirlpool customer, but too many others. Having successfully used the Sears Kenmore Elite refrigerator (a Whirlpool product) for many years in the past, we decided, when our Kenmore finally failed, to go direct with Whirlpool for this one, impressed as we were with Whirlpool history of quality products! What a surprising disappointment!! Right out of the box, the refrigerator had problems with the filter - clogged) and immediately replaced (reluctantly) by Lowes - and within days high temperature issues preventing upper cabinet ice maker production and requiring re-positioning of a poorly located temperature sensor, the repair of which was completed without fully defrosting the refrigerator, such that the ice-maker system could not reset itself and produce ice. So, for the second time after the fifth service call, we completely defrosted the refrigerator (24 hours), tossing out food, as necessary. Wow, for a while we had a 4-5 month glimpse of how great this refrigerator could be with both ice-makers producing ice in better than expected (because of the reviews) volumes.....until the 2017 Thanksgiving-Christmas holiday season at which time the ice-makers both ceased production, apparently due to failure of the automatic-defrost features, which seems to allow excessive frost build-up and compromise the temperature control functions. We are in the process of performing another manual defrost with the hope that the refrigerator will be able to reset itself and restore the integrity and performance of its temperature controls and ice-production. But, I guess we know what to expect, given the other recent similar reviews. Even so, we will give it another shot! To clarify: this is the Whirlpool French Door Refrigerator, Model: WRF993FIFM00, Serial Number: K71517642, purchased 9 May 2017 from Lowes Home Center, 7395 52nd Place East, Bradenton, FL 34203 with Extended Protection Plan, Reference Number 0077255417129193858001. Initial problems took us through the end of July 2017. The current defrost exercise should be completed by Friday, such that we may be operational in two days, until the next event and decision point! That said, I have seen your responses to other negative reviews and so would prefer you not patronize this review with a similar response. I regret that I cannot recommend this product, though I wish that I could!! Have a great New Year!!
